Sunday Slow Jam Vol.89 – Sweet Home

2018-11-23T21:29:58-08:00August 9, 2015|News, Sunday Slow Jams|

This summer I’ve had the privilege to tour across Canada and make music with some mighty fine people. There is something about being on the road that is fantastic and invigorating, especially during the summer. However, there is always a point when you long for home and simpler things like your own bed, fresh fruit, the comfort of friends and family, or your favourite mug. Home is a powerful place.

I picked up this album, “Don’t Lose This” a few weeks ago and immediately fell in love with its intimacy, presence and vibe, as well as, the stellar performances by Pops […]

Sunday Slow Jam Vol. 84 – Winin’ Boy Blues

2018-11-23T21:30:00-08:00June 21, 2015|News, Sunday Slow Jams|

Listening to the first 10 seconds of this track you may already notice that Eric Revis likes to colour outside the lines. This rendition of Jelly Roll Morton’s ‘Winin’ Boy Blues’ immediately evokes New Orleans with its swampy beat, big vibrato, and slow, hefty groove. However, Revis pushes the edges a little more than Morton may have ever imagined exploring which hints at Revis’ fierce and fearless improvising spirit. His music has nothing but personality and will challenge and inspire any listener.

Sunday Slow Jam Vol.62 – Simply Soul

2018-11-23T21:30:08-08:00January 18, 2015|News, Sunday Slow Jams|

I heard this song last week while I was running errands and could not get it out of my head. So, I immediately went home, pressed play and it has been on repeat ever since.

There’s so much to appreciate about this tune:  The chord progression (8 bars of heaven), the overall production and instrumentation, the organ that sighs in the background, the tasty groove, the warm, round tone of the bass and guitar, the kick drum that hits “the spot” every time, Al Green sharing his heart… This is soul music in its purest form. It’s deliciously simple, sparse and […]
